Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser hair removal work?

Light is emitted and absorbed by melanin within the hair, which is then converted to heat energy damaging the hair follicle.

What does laser hair removal treatment feel like?

With standard laser hair removal treatments, you can feel what is described as the ‘hot flick’ of an elastic band during treatment. However, with the virtually pain-free Evolve treatment, you will feel little to no discomfort. When in MOTION mode, the built-in IceTip technology allows for even more comfort for clients, especially when treating an area with lots of dense and dark hair. This technology can reach temperatures of -8°C for extra comfortable treatments.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required varies from client to client and depends on many factors. However, as a guideline, it is always recommended to complete a course of at least six sessions per treatment area.

How long will it take to see results?

Results can be seen after just a few treatments. However, a minimum of 6 treatments are recommended to deliver excellent results.

Who is suitable for treatment?

Suitable for all skin types. Grey or white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment. We recommend a consultation to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you.

Can all body areas be treated?

Yes, practically all areas of the body can be treated. Treatment areas include the face, bikini area, back, arms, legs, chest and underarms. Areas covered in tattoos are unable to be treated.

Are there any contraindications?

There are very few contraindications. However, during an advanced consultation, we will run through your medical history. The most common barriers to treatment are photosensitising medication, pregnancy and breast-feeding.

How long is the treatment session?

It’s a fast treatment. The duration depends on the size of the area to be treated. This ranges from five minutes for the upper lip and up to 35 minutes for a full leg.

Are there any pre-treatment recommendations?

Before treatment you should refrain from sunbathing and use of self-tanners. No sun exposure for 4 weeks is recommended. Please arrive at your appointment with the treatment area clean and shaved, without makeup, product or deodorant.

Are there any post-treatment recommendations?

Top tips after laser hair removal:
  1. It is recommended to avoid activities which generate excess heat for at least 24 hours after the treatment. This means no exercise, hot baths, showers or saunas as these activities can trap heat and bacteria in the hair follicles and could lead to irritation. We also advise wearing loose, light clothing following your hair removal treatment.
  2. It is recommended you wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50, to protect your skin from UV damage and sun exposure in-between your treatments.

Are all laser hair removal devices the same?

Short answer...No. It is important to do your research. The machine and technician are key. With the Evolve, we have the ability to utilise two modes: STANDARD mode and MOTION mode to deliver virtually pain-free laser hair removal treatments.

What does this mean for you?

Nobody likes the discomfort of waxing or the sensation of a rubber band flicking the skin, which people have experienced with other more traditional laser treatments. The EVOLVE reduces this discomfort by delivering energy in a more gradual way with the MOTION mode. Hair can be reduced on all body areas with a virtually pain-free experience. By heating the hair slowly and combining this with IceTip technology, the EVOLVE laser destroys the growing hair follicle in a much gentler way. With the EVOLVE, all skin types can receive safe and effective hair-removal treatments.

Diode Laser Vs IPL?

Typically, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology will require more regular and long-term treatments for hair reduction. A Diode Laser will work more effectively with less patient discomfort (with integrated cooling) while treating more skin and hair types than the IPL.

Isn’t the power of the machine the most important factor?

No! While machine power is important for some aesthetic treatments, such as tattoo removal, it is not as important for laser hair removal. The most important factor for laser hair removal is the pulse duration. This is the length of time that the laser emits energy. The longer the pulse duration, the more effective the treatment will be at targeting the hair follicle.
In fact, using a laser with too much power can actually be counterproductive for laser hair removal. This is because high power can cause the laser to overheat the skin, leading to skin damage and discomfort.
